How to Make Unique Rosary Boxes:

This unique keepsake rosary box is perfect for holding a precious rosary and would make a lovely gift. This blue box features a beautiful picture of Mary framed with sparkling light blue rhinestones.
This light pink rosary box features a lovely picture of Mary framed with sparkling pink rhinestones.
To make your own Rosary Box you will need:
1 small wooden box (available from craft stores)
1 small paper holy picture or card of choice (for limitless possibilities, find traditional Catholic pictures on the web and print them with a color printer).
Acrylic paint, your choice of color
Thin “metallic” silver or gold ribbon
Little rhinestones (flat on one side)
Clear decoupage finish
Glue
Fine grain sand paper
Paint brush
Scissors
Felt (color of choice), cut to fit the inside bottom of the box
Directions:
Use the sand paper to sand off any rough spots or edges. Blow the wood dust off the box so you are ready for the next step: Paint the box with two coats of paint, letting dry completely between coats.
Cut your traditional Catholic holy picture to size, then paint a thin layer of decoupage on the back of the picture. Place where desired on the box, and press and smooth the picture. Let it dry completely.
If attaching metallic ribbon, as pictured, cut to size and use decoupage to attach, holding in place as necessary as it dries.
Next, paint the entire box with decoupage to give a smooth, clear finsih. You will need to work in stages, painting different sections of the box and letting dry before moving on to the next to avoid fingerprints and smudges.
Attach rhinestones around the traditional Catholic holy picture by painting a little decoupage or glue on the flat side. Press in place and let dry.
Finally, glue the felt into the bottom of the box for a soft resting place for your precious rosary.
This First Communion rosary box would make a perfect First Communion gift. To make your own First Communion rosary box, find a suitable picture and cut to size with a special edged scissors (found in craft stores). Browse the First Communion selection of greeting cards for a traditional catholic type picture. Then follow the directions above for making a rosary box.
